Stretching timers are a distinct use case from high-intensity interval timers: rather than maximizing effort, the goal is to hold each position long enough for the muscle and connective tissue to respond to the stretch stimulus. Research on static stretching indicates that holding a stretch for at least 30 seconds is required to produce measurable increases in flexibility, with 60–90 second holds producing the greatest acute range-of-motion improvements. Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation (PNF) stretching, which alternates between passive holds and brief isometric contractions, uses shorter cycles — typically 10 seconds of contraction followed by 20–30 seconds of passive hold — making a dedicated interval timer ideal. Dynamic stretching, used as a warm-up, uses even shorter intervals of 5–10 seconds per movement before transitioning. A well-structured post-workout stretching routine of 10–15 minutes can meaningfully improve flexibility, reduce delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS), and lower injury risk over time. Using a timer rather than counting ensures each stretch receives the correct duration regardless of the athlete's fatigue level or tendency to rush. The structured format also helps practitioners build comprehensive routines that address all major muscle groups systematically.

How to Use the Interval Timer

Choose a preset workout (Tabata, HIIT, boxing rounds, etc.) or set your own work time, rest time, and round count using the custom fields. Your settings are saved between sessions.

  2. 2

Click Start. The timer counts down the work interval with a color indicator, then automatically switches to the rest period with an audio cue. Round progress is displayed throughout.

  3. 3

The timer advances through all rounds automatically. When the final round is complete, a finish sound plays and your total workout is done. Use the Reset button to run it again or adjust your settings.
