The 7-Minute Workout is a high-intensity circuit protocol published in the American College of Sports Medicine's Health & Fitness Journal in 2013 by Brett Klika and Chris Jordan. The protocol consists of 12 bodyweight exercises performed for 30 seconds each with only 10 seconds of transition time between movements, completing the full circuit in approximately 7 minutes. The exercises — which include jumping jacks, wall sits, push-ups, abdominal crunches, step-ups, squats, tricep dips, planks, high knees, lunges, push-up rotations, and side planks — are sequenced to alternate between upper body, lower body, and core movements, ensuring no two consecutive exercises fatigue the same muscle group. The science behind the protocol is the concept of high-intensity circuit training (HICT), which uses body weight as resistance combined with minimal rest to achieve cardiovascular and muscular benefits comparable to much longer workouts. The authors note that repeating the 7-minute circuit two or three times produces a 14–21 minute workout that approaches the stimulus of prolonged moderate-intensity exercise. The protocol is widely recommended for travelers, time-constrained individuals, and anyone without access to gym equipment.
