Limit output file size

iPhone videos are among the most common files people need to compress. Since iPhone 7, Apple has shot video in HEVC (H.265) — an efficient codec, but the combination of 4K resolution, 60fps, high dynamic range, and Dolby Vision color profiles creates files that are 2–5 GB for a few minutes of footage. Sharing these files via email (25 MB Gmail limit), iMessage (no Wi-Fi), or social platforms often fails without compression. Zolkit handles iPhone MOV files natively. Upload the MOV directly — no conversion app needed. The compressor reads the HEVC-encoded MOV and re-encodes it as H.264 MP4, which is universally playable on Android, Windows, web browsers, and all social platforms. Setting resolution to 720p and quality to Balanced typically reduces a 1 GB iPhone video to 80–150 MB — small enough for most email attachments and sharing platforms. If you need to send via WhatsApp or a 25 MB email limit, set the target size accordingly. High Quality mode preserves the original color fidelity at the cost of file size, useful when the video will be displayed on a large screen. The MP4 output includes the -faststart flag, meaning it starts playing immediately when streamed online without waiting for the full download.

Free Online Video Compressor — Reduce Video File Size in Your Browser

Zolkit's Video Compressor uses FFmpeg WebAssembly to compress video files entirely in your browser. Upload MP4, MOV, AVI, MKV, or WebM files and reduce their size by 30–70% without sending your footage to any server. Choose between High Quality, Balanced, and Smaller File modes, pick a target resolution from 360p to 1080p, and set a target file size (for example, 25 MB for Discord Free). All processing happens locally on your device — your videos never leave your browser.

100% Private

Your video never leaves your device. All compression runs entirely in WebAssembly inside the browser tab — no server, no cloud storage.

30–70% Smaller

H.264 re-encoding with CRF quality control typically reduces file size by 30–70% depending on the source material and quality setting.

Advanced Controls

Three quality presets, five resolution options, four audio bitrate settings, and a target file size mode — all visible and adjustable upfront.

FFmpeg-Powered

Uses the same FFmpeg H.264 encoder trusted by professional video editors, compiled to WebAssembly for native-speed performance in the browser.

Free, No Account

No subscription, no sign-up, no watermark. Zolkit's Video Compressor is completely free with no usage limits beyond your device's memory.

Resolution Control

Downscale to 720p, 480p, or 360p to dramatically reduce file size. Lower resolution is the single most effective way to shrink video for sharing.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why are iPhone videos so large?

iPhone cameras shoot at 4K resolution (up to 3840×2160) at frame rates of 24, 30, or 60fps, often with Dolby Vision HDR enabled. Even with HEVC's efficient compression, a 1-minute 4K60fps clip with Dolby Vision runs 400–700 MB. The large size comes from the combination of high resolution, high frame rate, and wide color gamut — all of which increase data per frame.

Will compressing an iPhone video reduce quality significantly?

At High Quality (CRF 18) and 1080p, most viewers cannot distinguish the compressed MP4 from the original HEVC MOV on a phone screen or laptop. At 720p Balanced (CRF 23), quality is very good and file size drops by 85–95%. Quality loss becomes noticeable only when downscaling to 480p or using the Smaller File preset (CRF 28) on fast-motion content.

Can I use this to compress iPhone videos for WhatsApp?

Yes. WhatsApp compresses videos automatically when sent via mobile data, but still has a 16 MB limit for video messages. Set the target file size to 15 MB (leave a 1 MB buffer) and resolution to 720p. For longer clips, drop to 480p. The output MP4 is fully compatible with WhatsApp on both iOS and Android.

Does this work for iPhone videos shot in Cinematic Mode?

Yes. Cinematic Mode videos are standard HEVC MOV files with an additional depth data track. Zolkit extracts the video and audio tracks and re-encodes them as H.264 MP4. The depth data and focus effect metadata are not preserved in the output, but the visible video quality is retained according to the quality setting you choose.
