Field recordings present a fundamentally different challenge from studio audio: wind turbulence generates low-mid rumble that simple high-pass filters cannot fully address, and crowd noise or traffic occupies the same frequency bands as human speech. Rescue mode was designed for exactly this scenario. It runs a steep high-pass at 100 Hz to cut wind blast and mechanical vibration, applies aggressive non-local-means denoising (anlmdn) which is particularly effective against non-stationary noise like gusts and passing vehicles, then uses parametric EQ to boost intelligibility in the 1–2 kHz range where consonants carry most of their detail, and finally applies heavy compression to bring buried dialogue up to a listenable level. The result is rarely broadcast-perfect — genuine outdoor recordings require professional audio restoration software for that — but it can make previously unintelligible audio usable for social media, documentary rough cuts, or transcription services.
